The transfer of any baby, no matter how big or small the baby and no matter how far the journey, will be a stressful time for new parents and families.
Little Lives Big Journeys is our fundraising appeal that is supported by Leicester Hospitals Charity (Registered Charity No.1056804) The aim of the fund is to help us to improve the service we offer to the babies and families we transfer.
What difference has Little Lives Big Journeys made to our service?
- We’ve been able to buy specialist cooling equipment which helps to protect the brains of babies who may have suffered from a lack of oxygen around the time they were being born. This means that we can now start this critical treatment as soon as the transport team reaches the baby.
- We’ve bought specialist hearing protection for our babies to wear during their journey in our ambulances
- We’ve bought specialist breathing equipment so that we can transfer babies closer to home sooner
- We’ve also been able to send lots of our transport nurses to national and international transport conferences as well as on advanced training courses
