Acute referral Pathway

This page outlines the process for a straightforward referral. There are clinical and logistical circumstances when other pathways are followed, and we will direct the calls appropriately when you ring-in.

 Ensure you have all relevant notes and baby details for the referral

Transport nurse will take brief details
and if needed set up a call conference with
referring unit medical team,
transport consultant + registrar and any other relevant professionals

  • Gastroschisis
  • Ventilated infant with TOF +/- atresia
  • Suspected duct dependent lesion not responding to Prostin
  • Intestinal perforation
  • Unstable respiratory / cardiovascular failure not responding to appropriatemanagement
Transport team will locate a cot(note that in some instances, e.g. surgical & cardiac referrals the cot-locating may require direct communication from referrer to receiver)
