Bliss is the UK charity working to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families. It exists to ensure that all babies born too soon, too small or too sick in the UK have the best possible chance of survival and of reaching their full potential. Their website offers a wealth of information and support for all families of premature or sick newborn babies

Neonatal care in the UK is organised in networks. CenTre Neonatal Transport is the commissioned transport service for the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (EMNODN). You can find out more about the network by clicking here.


TAMBA is the charity that is concerned with the care of twins and multiple births. Their website offers lots of useful advice and information from pregnancy throughout childhood.

There are some charities and support organisations that are concerned with individual problems or diagnoses that affect newborn infants. Below are links to several of these.

Heartlink is the East Midlands Children’s Heart Heart Care Association . This charity was set up in 1984 and has  close links with The Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. It was set up originally as a support group for parents and families of children who have a heart defect. They offer a free phone helpline to any families who have a baby or child with a heart defect.

Tracheo-oesophageal fistual support was set up in 1982 by parents of children born with TOF and associated conditions. They can provide one to one support and a range of information and resources for families of children affected by this condition.


TOFS logo

CLAPA, the Cleft Lip & Palate Association is the only national charity supporting children and their families who are affected by cleft lip and/or palate. They can provide a range of support and information that families may find useful.

CDH UK was founded in 2003 and is the support charity for families affected by Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. They can offer support and advice on CDH from diagnosis to childhood and beyond.

Group B Strep support is the only UK charity dedicated to eradicating Group B Strep infections, including meningitis, in babies. They offer up to date, evidence based information to families and healthcare professionals and can provide support to affected families.
